Kevin K does not appear in Wikipedia. Neither the magazine Mojo, Q modern or classic Rolling Stone often devote space to his music. However, his fame transcended his legend, one of the few artists of CBGB generation, without ever having passed through the barrier to success, remains as valid as in its infancy, making it a true cult musician.
But there is an added bonus: their survival. He is a musician whose heroes and band mates left for the black sky of rock and roll, leaving him only to captivate us with the best of punk, glam and rock and roll today.
His new CD, Deutschland, consists of 10 songs well played and with vars at CBGB in 1983. Pure rock and roll. Therefore, my whole life on the Rock was built in New York City, playing at CBGB from 1980 until 2002. He taught me to be ready to play without any sound evidence, move the gear through the audience. I loved that! Therefore
in America I'm a loser, just a man who never had a suitable contract. I toured these countries each year for 31 years I've been playing. But in Europe I'm known as a survivor, a man who never leaves. I do not like the word is not ... well, I'm satisfied. I know of many other musicians who have been playing for 31 years and are 18 studio CDs to his credit. Maybe some old bluesmen!
- What pruneds tell me about your first band The Toys?
- We were a very good band. We were writing our own songs in 1980. Not many bands doing that in Buffalo. All bands were playing covers. In addition we opened for all the great bands like Romantics, Ramones, Undertones, Johnny Thunders, Cheetah Chrome, Pat Benatar, Squeeze.
All those bands we were told that we moved to New York City, we left for Buffalo! It was a smart move for us to leave Buffalo in New York. Even though it killed my brother Alan (d. 1996), and bassist Peter Cain (2005).
- Why did you decide to make a version of the song "You Light Up My Life"?
