Funny Sayings On Running Shirts Where no rules "Captain" Gary Lucas sends

Despite being one of the busiest musicians these days, Gary Lucas will always be remembered for having worked in the last stage of the career of one of the greatest visionaries of rock and roll: the Captain Beefheart .
With Don Van Vliet (real name of "Captain Beef Heart") participated in their last two albums "Doc at the Radar Station" (1980) and "Ice Cream for Crow" (1982). Two albums required to better understand the "experimental rock" in the early eighties. Or if you want to understand this type of rock in its entirety since Beefheart as well as his friend Frank Zappa began in the late sixties with a rock that broke all the molds set, which asIdera one of the most important alternative rock of the nineties.
In 2002, some demos and other unreleased recordings they collected the work between Buckley and Luke were published under the name of "Songs to No One 1991-1992".
Today, this musician awarded a Grammy and is considered one of the greatest guitarists currently working on various projects. About that and his experience with Captain Beefheart will tell "Chelsea Zine, who kindly granted this interview. And Argentine fans attention and local producers, Gary Lucas plans to play this year in Buenos Aires, where acoustic tour and is looking for a producer to do so down to our land. The phone is ringing

What you remember recording "Ice Cream for Crow"?
remember breaking my ass in New York learning from scratch some of the incredibly difficult compositions by Van Vliet, which played on piano!
I have the unenviable task of transcribing the hearing on guitar, which literally takes months! After pasteurization the music to his satisfaction, I went to Los Angeles where we rehearsed for a week or two in the Stone Fox in Burbank, where Don taught the band the rest of the music and integrate what I had learned in New York with them. Then we moved to the door next to Friends Studios, where "Clear Spot, had been recorded, and workedio room that night. The audience loved us could do no wrong! You can hear the single "Flavor Bud Living" that night in the box "Grow Fins" box on Revenant.

Are you still in contact with Captain Beefheart?

No, I walked away from his path in early 1984. I left quickly after helping to catalog all of his paintings and drawings that date and connect with Mary Boone Gallery and the artist Julian Schnabel for an exhibition in New York.
He did not want to continue in music and I had met with mainly for us to play, not to be his "artistic advisor" was more or less what I said.
Virgin Records have also released another album,XC
What are your future projects?

I have a whole series of outstanding albums to come out this year. A new live DVD "Gods and Monsters" with the current formation of the supergroup (Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads on keyboards and production, Ernie Brooks of Modern Lovers on bass, Billy Ficca from Television on drums, Jason Candler and Joe Hendel sax and trombone (Joe also plays keyboards). In addition we are ¾ of the way to a new studio album. Then I have an album coming out on March 23 with a young UK electronic band, The Dark Poets, in the label Some Bizzare (Soft Cell, Test Dept., The The etc.). "Gary Lucas Vs The Dark Poets - Beyond the Pale", music really booked. Check our websitewe recorded more recently, just before the meeting of Led Zeppelin in London, and praised a lot ... I'm really psyched about this and needless to say!
Oh yes, you should add that soon I will be working in Amsterdam composing music to accompany a release of the last good long interview with Don Van Vliet, who was led by his old friend and fan, the Dutch journalist from Radio Co Kloet in 1993.
